All my books say that Wins started at 1,, BTW one can never really pin down the exact month a GI firearm was made — the factories did not ship them in numerical order. They would make, and mark, bunches of receivers and put them aside in bins. When the assembly line s need more receivers, someone would go to the parts bins and grab a bunch. Thus a receiver might be made in January, put in the bins in January, pulled out in March and serial numbered if not already done and parkerized, then snet over to the assembly people, where it could sit around another month before being tested, accepted, crated and actually shipped to the Govt.

If you state the full serial number I can tell you what month, day, and year that number was stamped on the receiver. The carbine would have been assembled some time after that date. You can give me the number by private message if you prefer. Serial number was stamped on Nov. The carbine would have been finished some time later, probably late Nov.

I have a beautiful Winchester M1 carbine that I am preparing to sell. It was a part of my numbers estate that I received about 4 numbers ago. He purchased it in the lates and I remember being allowed to shoot it as a child. The serial number is xxx. I would appreciate knowing the date of manufacture. The gun is all original Winchester and all numbers match. The national mod to the gun has been where my grandson put some Briwax on the bolt to make it shine a little better.
